Red Bull prepares to fight as the 2012 F1 season approaches its end ? Formula 1 news

Red Bull Racing team is getting ready to fight so as to maintain Sebastian Vettel?s lead in the drivers? championship after Ferrari?s Fernando Alonso narrows the points gap.

Vettel found himself battling with the pace set by the McLaren drivers in the practice sessions over the weekend and also suffered bad luck during the qualifying round for the race. The driver originally qualified at third position but his car became a victim to fuel irregularity so that the car failed to reach the pits on its own power which is a violation of the rules set by FIA. As a result, Vettel had to start the race from the pit lane while all other drivers were moved one position ahead.

The team principal for Red Bull, Christian Horner, believed that after the surprising incident in the qualifiers, Vettel will be losing his lead to Alonso but he has been extremely impressed by his podium finish despite all odds.

?We know how consistent Fernando has been this year and it was entirely predictable that he would be on the podium from sixth on the grid,? Horner said. ?So I already had a mental image of him taking 15 or 25 points out of us today, and to limit that damage to only three and finish behind him is a remarkable recovery and a great drive by Sebastian. He showed that he is world class today to anybody that doubted him as a racer.?

Horner admitted that it is really difficult to overtake on the Abu Dhabi track and the team had only been expecting an eighth or ninth position. He confessed that Vettel had told him that the driver will be meeting him on the podium. He also admitted that the safety cars helped Vettel a lot and in the end luck seemed to be on his side after all.

Vettel put in enough effort so that he only lost three points and a ten point difference still remains between him and Alonso. The driver had stated earlier that anything can happen by the end of this season. The team is preparing to give their best with only two races remaining in the current season.
